Commercial: Castle & Cooke Self Storage
The facility, run by customer-friendly staff, features competitive rates, flexible space options, 24-hour video surveillance, fully air conditioned, well-lit interior, moving carts and elevators, free lock with rental (while supplies last), and special rates for senior citizens, military and Mililani residents. In addition, Castle & Cooke Self Storage sells packing supplies and offers customers the use of a business center with printing, photocopying, faxing, computer use, free wireless connectivity and conference room.
The building is a US Green Building Council registered project and is currently seeking a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified rating. Castle & Cooke Hawai‘i's focus on sustainability is evident in this environmentally friendly storage facility and the formation of a company-wide sustainability task force.
"There is such a strong connection and respect for all of us who live in Hawai'i between our quality of life and our stewardship of land and natural resources," said Harry A. Saunders, president of Castle & Cooke Hawai'i. "This storage facility clearly manifests Castle & Cooke's commitment to energy conservation and renewable resources as well as our nearly fifty years of building expertise in Hawai‘i."
Some of the environmentally friendly features of Castle & Cooke Self Storage include the use of solar roof tiles to provide 60,000 kilowatt-hours of energy per year (19% of the building's projected annual energy use), compact-fluorescent bulbs and occupancy sensor lights, environmentally-friendly building materials, green house keeping and recycling program, and even "green" parking (located near front entrance) for hybrid-electric or electric vehicles.
As part of Castle & Cooke Self Storage’s efforts to educate the public on sustainability and renewable energy, the facility is focusing on school tours. Students have the chance to tour the facility and learn how a photovoltaic system works through a hands-on demonstration. In addition, an educational activities brochure is available for younger students who visit the facility.
